Satellite images from a wide variety of sensors have been collected for decades, forming an especially useful database for large-scale monitoring activities. The efficient use of these databases (Big data Earth) is not feasible with the traditional work method, based on the downloading of satellite images and processing on desktop computers. Due to this, since 2010, an offer of platforms that use the cloud environment to manage this data has been growing, giving greater storage capacity and processing speed, which provides greater flexibility in the analysis of this data. In this article, the general characteristics of the platforms that allow the processing of Big data in a cloud environment are described, the most important ones are listed, focusing on Google Earth Engine (GEE) as it is one of the most implemented and with the greatest potential for forest fire monitoring. In addition, an example of the method of use of GEE is presented for the evaluation of burned surfaces, changes in coverage and land uses, which allows to facilitate the understanding of its use.
