Abstract

Son muchos los autores que coinciden en señalar la importancia del papel que desempeña el clima en relación con la viña, tanto en términos de tipicidad y productividad como de calidad de los vinos elaborados. Un simple repaso de las áreas vitivinícolas del mundo parece confirmar la relación existente entre el clima y la diferente calidad de los vinos obtenidos. En este trabajo, el estudio de la influencia de la variabilidad climática en el comportamiento de la Vitis vinifera se aplica al ámbito geográfico de la Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja (D.O.Ca. Rioja). La metodología seguida se basa en el uso conjunto del concepto de terroir2, el análisis multivariable de datos y los sistemas de información geográfica. Los resultados encontrados confirman el papel que ejerce el clima sobre el viñedo, tanto en términos cuantitativos -reparto o tipicidad y productividad de viñedo- como cualitativos -obtención de frutos con características organolépticas adecuadas para la elaboración de vinos de calidad-.
