Abstract

En los últimos años se ha prestado mucha atención a diferentes aspectos de la globalización. Un modo de hacerse una idea de los resultados de ésta es visualizar diferentes aspectos de la misma usando mapas del mundo. Este trabajo utiliza “cartogramas” del mundo con el fin de discutir la forma de la globalización. Mapas de comercio, migración, viajes y telecomunicaciones pueden ilustrar cómo de interconectado está el mundo, describiendo los contornos de la conectividad global. Otros mapas muestran ingresos, educación, enfermedades y condiciones de vida; estos mapas demuestran la persistencia de grandes desigualdades en el mundo. Debería ser de interés prioritario conocer el grado en el que las personas y los lugares están conectados y si estas conexiones son realmente beneficiosas. Los mapas son un medio efectivo de ilustrar el nivel de globalización existente.
